Symptoms revealed after positive COVID-19 test


President Joe Biden tested positive for COVID-19 while traveling on Wednesday (July 17) in Las Vegas, according to APThe White House confirmed the news by releasing a statement from his doctor describing his symptoms as “mild.”

Biden will fly to his home in Delaware, where he will “self-isolate and continue to fully perform all of his duties during that time,” press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said.

The news was first shared by Unidos US President and CEO Janet Murguía, who told guests at the group’s Las Vegas conference that the president had apologized and could not appear. They revealed that COVID-19 was the reason.

Biden’s symptoms revealed

Dr. Kevin O’Connor, the president’s physician, also issued a statement about the positive test. His notes said Biden was experiencing upper respiratory symptoms this afternoon. His symptoms included: “coryza (runny nose) and nonproductive cough, along with general malaise.”

After testing positive for COVID-19, his doctor prescribed the antiviral drug Paxlovid, which he took the first dose of, O’Connor said.

President Biden is scheduled to speak at a Unidos event in Las Vegas on Wednesday afternoon as part of an effort to rally Hispanic voters ahead of the November election.

Instead, he headed to the airport to fly to Delaware. He had planned to spend a long weekend at his home in Rehoboth Beach.

According to AP, Joe Biden cautiously boarded Air Force One and told reporters accompanying him: “I feel good.” He did not wear a mask when boarding Air Force One.

Earlier, the president was at the Original Lindo Michoacan restaurant in Las Vegas, where he greeted diners and sat down for an interview with Univision.

Biden’s positive test came days later a man was shot at Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania. In recent days, more details have emerged about the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks.
