The coolest tech showcased at CES 2025

HDMI 2.2

The HDMI Forum introduced the latest HDMI 2.2 spec at CES, which supports a much higher 96Gbps bandwidth for higher resolution and refresh rate output. Compared to the current HDMI 2.1 specification, HDMI 2.2 can support even higher resolutions of 12K and 16K. It enables 4K output at 480Hz, 8K at 240Hz and 10L at 120Hz, making it ready for future TVs and devices. In addition to the new specification, we also have a new HDMI cable that is Ultra96 certified, guaranteed to fully meet the 2.2 specification. All official cables that meet the standard will carry the ‘HDMI Ultra96’ badge so you know they will work with compatible devices.

What does this mean for the average consumer? Currently, not much. If history is our guide, it will be several years before we see devices shipping with the HDMI 2.2 spec, and this will initially be limited to high-end devices. Higher bandwidth will benefit experiences that rely on low latency, such as VR, MR, and AR headsets. You can bet that next-gen consoles will probably have HDMI 2.2 ports. The new Latency Indicator Protocol (LIP) included in the specification promises to improve audio/video synchronization between things like TVs and receivers or soundbars.

Koorui G7 750Hz gaming monitor

Chinese gaming accessories manufacturer Koorui launches the world’s first 750Hz gaming monitor. That’s right, this groundbreaking product has got everyone talking about this lesser-known global brand. We don’t have too many details about it yet other than the fact that it probably won’t be released worldwide anytime soon. However, we could see outside OEMs using this panel in their models if there is enough demand. G7 has a 24.5-inch TN panel with Full-HD resolution, 0.5ms response time and supports VESA HDR400 standard.

Needless to say, 750Hz is great to brag about but it’s not the most practical as you’ll need a really powerful GPU to drive this thing, let alone play games at this refresh rate. However, it’s a great way to get noticed and create global buzz for the company.

163 inch HiSense MicroLED TV

Chinese TV manufacturer HiSense demonstrated TV at CES 2025 with the world’s first 163-inch MicroLED TV. However, this is more than just a concept as the company actually plans to sell it in select markets. Needless to say it will be very expensive but this could very well be the next best thing to OLED or even better. Not to be confused with Mini LED, MicroLED features even smaller individual LEDs about the size of a pixel, giving it OLED-like characteristics when it comes to color accuracy and dimming, but has all the brightness benefits of LED TVs.

The specifications of this TV are similar to the 136MX model also launched at CES 2025. It has HiSense’s Hi-View AU Engine X processor and supports common HDR standards such as Dolby Vision and HDR10+. The TV has the company’s own VIDAA operating system, which has all the popular streaming apps like Netflix, YouTube, etc. Having HDMI 2.1 and a 120Hz refresh rate makes it a great TV for gaming.

Nekojita FuFu

The cute little device from the Japanese company Yukai Engineering has stolen everyone’s hearts. Nékojita FuFu is a tiny robot cat that can be attached to the side of your coffee cup and will blow gentle air over your beverage to cool it. It may sound silly but it’s something I really want in life! Sadly, this product will only launch in Japan, but I’m sure it will eventually appear on parallel import sites. The robot has many modes with different blowing intensities. The company has lots of fun robotic ‘pets’ for your desk and home.
