The ‘Harry Potter’ actress passed away at the age of 89
The entertainment industry lost a beloved star of film, television and theater this week: Lady Maggie Smith. Known for his roles in hit projects such as the films ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Downtown Abbey’, Smith was 89 years old when he passed away on Friday (September 27).

According to Associated PressMaggie Smith’s sons, Christopher Larkin and Toby Stephens, confirmed the tragic news in a public statement released by their agency Clair Dobbs.
“She leaves behind two loving sons and five grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother,” the statement said.
The statement further revealed that Smith died “peacefully in hospital.” The statement said Smith was known to be private and was eventually transferred to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital after being treated there in his final days. Maggie’s sons also thanked supporters for their kind messages and asked for privacy. Details about Smith’s memorial service are not yet available.

She won her first Oscar for ‘Best Actress’ in 1969 for her role as a school teacher in ‘The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie’. Nearly a decade later, she won her second prize. Her Tony Award was presented in 1990. That same year, Queen Elizabeth II named her a Dame for her achievements in the performing arts.
