It seems only natural that America’s oldest resort pulls out all the stops for Memorial Day. This American Express Hotel Collection member is located in the lush mountains of Bath County, Virginia, near the West Virginia border.

The holiday weekend celebrations here are packed with activities, including a carnival with face painting, live music by the pool, T-shirt dyeing classes and fireworks displays – perfect for families. Parents will love the mini golf tournament, formal afternoon tea and the Summer Kick-Off cookout with a live band.

Washington Hilton

There is no better place to honor America’s fallen soldiers than in Washington, DC. Home to the country’s largest war memorials and monuments, spend days touring these historic sites and evenings poolside at the Washington Hilton.

With views of the Washington Monument, the hotel will mark the weekend by opening its restaurant and pool bar for the summer. They’re partnering with Roseblood Rosé to offer creative drink specials and merchandise giveaways Friday through Monday. The team here will also host a poolside barbecue featuring semi-smoked hot dogs, grilled chicken and Washington, DC’s famous burgers.

New Yorkers rejoice: The Hamptons once again call for summer fun, and Montauk Gurney’s chic beachfront hotspot knows how to party. The Memorial Day celebration kicked off with DJ sets from artists like Chachi, Surf Mesa and Ian Asher at the Beach Club.

Sea Island goes all out to kick off summer with events including Spring Fling, a seafood buffet at the beach club, dyeing on the beach and a grilling competition among the island’s chefs (where guests vote on winner). Kids will love the various theme nights, including Carnival Night and Dinos After Dark, where they watch movies and munch on snacks with the resort’s junior staff.

Big Cedar Motel

Sitting in the shadow of the Ozarks, this Ridgedale, Missouri resort overlooks majestic Table Rock Lake. Billed as “America’s premier wilderness resort,” Big Cedar Lodge is especially patriotic every Memorial Day weekend.

This year, on May 25, country singer Morgan Wallen will perform at the resort’s new outdoor amphitheater, Thunder Ridge Nature Arena.

But the hotel’s Patriotic Picnic is the main attraction, with plenty of food and a performance by a local band. End the evening with a Lady Liberty fireworks cruise on the lake.
