The manga Dracula’s on the Night Shift features an unusual vampire
There are actually a lot of vampire manga out there. We have romantic shojo series like Vampire Knight. The vampire died instantly is a shonen comedy. They were a fixture in the beginning JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure arc! We also cannot forget hell. Dracula is on night shift (Dracula Yakin) started out as a light novel by Satoshi Wagahara, before being adapted from a manga, and it offers its own take on vampires and their otherworldly nature. This is also quite an attractive thing, because our main character Yura sometimes appears to be a quite ordinary man.

Yura is a vampire. Shocking in the series titled Dracula is on night shiftI know. Other than that, he’s a pretty normal person. He spent 70 years trying to find who was responsible, hoping that one day he could become human again, but that didn’t seem to happen. He still has some connection to the world, like the brother he saved but is not transformed. But currently, he is working the night shift at a convenience store in Ikebukuro.
Even though Yura is a vampire we usually associate with a villain, he is seen as a genuinely good person. Dracula is on night shift comic begins. When he learned that his boss was divorced, he even stayed out a little later than usual to comfort him. Even though the sun rises, he helps Iris – a woman he doesn’t even know – when she is attacked by drunk men, who also turn out to be vampires.
This causes him to be decomposed by the sun and reduced to ash. Except that Iris is the sister of the Dark Cross Knight. She got used to the afterlife, packed up his ashes and everything, and brought him to her home. Her target is the Holy Cross Church cult he helped her fight the night before. Since the group knew that “not all ghosts are evil,” she did not take action against Yura and helped him.
All of this leads to the point of the series. Yura wants to live a normal life. Or as normal as possible. He even started to give up on trying to become human again. But now that he has met Iris, he is forming more connections with the world and regaining hope. The episode ends with the two facing other ghosts, helping people around the world, and even encountering Aika, the woman who made Yura what she is today. It’s a great mix of moments that could be funny or heartfelt, depicting the daily life of a man who’s also a vampire, as well as more thrilling moments where he and Iris face off. deal with the more toxic individuals out there. It’s an interesting balance.
The thing is, I feel a bit disappointed that this seems to be all we can get when it comes to Dracula is on night shiftbecause there is only this one manga. It’s a long one, for sure! It is 448 pages long. It stops at a good point so there’s really no big deciding factor. But it still left Yura’s goal unfinished. There is promise of future adventures. I guess I just wish we had some assurance in finding out what happens next with Yura and Iris.
