The scariest thing about Donald Trump’s cabinet
We are now in the wilderness, an uncomfortable time between the end of the century Joe Bidenterm of office and the beginning of the second term Donald Trump the president of the country. None of us know Exactly how a bold Trump would govern, or whether Republican senators would take their advice and consent role seriously. But we can glean quite a bit of information from the implementation Trump’s Cabinet. There are several rather traditional selectone of them even work for George Soros. Others have expressed controversial And extremely view. However, whether sane or crazy, all of Trump’s cabinet picks will probably have to operate as skilled propagandists, praising him like a newscaster in North Korea.
Of course, if we know anything from the first Trump administration it’s that a lot can happen in a very short period of time of time. Look at the former Florida congressman Matt Gaetz: A week ago, he was preparing to become justice minister; Now, after his nomination was exposed amid allegations of sexual misconduct (which he denies), he’s on Cameo. His biography simple read: “I served in Congress. Trump nominated me to be Attorney General of the United States (which failed). One time I fired the Speaker of the House.” With videos starting at $500, you can have Gaetz record a custom message, seemingly completing the first attorney general candidate’s path to Cameo. Like so many things in Trumpworld, None of this is normal.
With Gaetz gone, there’s added impetus to focus on some of Trump’s other Cabinet nominees and more to worry about. You can switch Pete Hegseth, Who, while having a weekend Fox & Friends server, not necessarily required professional qualifications leads an organization of 3 million people (Department of Defense) and has also been accused sexual assault (which he denies). Additionally, Trump exploited vaccine skeptics Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to run the Department of Health and Human Services and Bashar al-Assad strengthen Tulsi Gabbard Okay director of national intelligence. Not to mention, is there anything Elon Musk And Vivek Ramaswamy are planning to achieve in the newly created Bureau of Government Effectiveness.
But to me, the scariest Cabinet choice, and one that will likely be chosen by a Republican-majority Senate, is Russell Vought, who will return to run the Office of Management and Budget. You’ll remember Vought as co-author of the Heritage Foundation’s blueprint for Trump’s second term, Project 2025, a wildly unpopular policy book about 13% support among registered voters, according to a poll. The book was so unpopular that Trump disavowed its contents this summer: “I know nothing about Project 2025. I don’t know who is behind it. I don’t agree with some of the things they’re saying,” he said wroteadding that some of its assertions are “absolutely ridiculous and appalling.” EQUAL I noted in July, Trump “may try to distance himself from Project 2025, but his radical agenda for America is written all over it.”
What makes Vought’s nomination so confusing is that he’s not some TV personality or eccentric. Who has brain worm?. Vough is extremely capable. In his Project 2025 chapter, Vought wrote in favor of “aggressive use of the executive branch’s enormous power” and described OMB as playing a key role in this effort, as well as Guardian note. According to Vought, the office needs to be “intimately involved in all aspects of the White House policy process.” That’s not all. “The long and difficult road ahead to return to our beloved Constitution begins with being honest with ourselves. It starts with recognizing that we are living in a post-Constitutional era,” Vought wrote in 2022. “Post-Constitution” sounds bad.
With Trump’s erratic nature, he can change direction at any time. He also needs to be liked, and Vought’s proposals can be very unpopular and hard to sell. But for now at least, Trump appears to be on the same page as Vought, who was suggestion that the incoming president will be a “wrecking ball to the state administration” on the first day. And like Trump wrote on nominating Vought: “Russ knows exactly how to destroy the Deep State and end the weaponization of the Government.”
