The stowaway was arrested on a flight from New York to Paris
A stowaway flew from New York to Paris without a ticket earlier this week, but was discovered at the end of the flight.
The woman flew on a Delta Airlines flight from New York’s JFK International Airport to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport without a boarding pass on Tuesday and was arrested upon arrival in France.
The woman went through advanced imaging technology body scanners at JFK Airport and managed to avoid document and ID checks during the security screening process, a Transportation Security Administration source said. load told CBS News, the BBC’s news partner in the US.
It’s unclear how she was discovered.
The woman bypassed two stations that verified her identity and boarding status before boarding the plane, a TSA spokesperson told CNN.
The spokesperson said she did not have any prohibited items with her.
In a statement to CBS, Delta said: “Nothing is more important than safety and security.” That’s why Delta is conducting a comprehensive investigation into what may have happened and will cooperate with other aviation stakeholders and law enforcement to achieve that goal. ”
A video posted on social media by a passenger shows the moment the captain informed the plane that they were waiting for the authorities to take the woman out.
“Everyone, this is the captain, we are just waiting for the police to come on board,” the captain said in the video. “They may be here and they have directed us to keep everyone on the plane until we can accommodate the extra passengers on the plane.”
The individual has not yet been identified, although CBS News reports it is a woman.
Rob Jackson, a passenger on the flight, told the New York Times that it was a normal journey until the landing process began and the combat flight attendants’ intercom kept going off.
“I fly a lot and it’s unusual for that to happen right when we land,” Mr. Jackson said.
He said when the plane landed, the captain asked passengers to remain seated until the situation was resolved.
Mr. Jackson said six or seven police officers then boarded the plane and he overheard a flight attendant say that a woman had been going from one restroom to another during the flight.
