What Yolanda Saldívar is reportedly asking the court for
When Selena died, she was just 23 years old and just days away from celebrating her fourth wedding anniversary with the band’s lead guitarist Chris Pérez. A year before his death, the singer had won the first GRAMMY award in his career for ‘Best Mexican-American Album.’ Her win marked the first time a female Tejano artist had won in that category.
Ironically, Yolanda got angry while serving as president of the singer’s fan club. She shot Selena in a hotel room in Corpus Christi, Texas, on March 31, 1995, during a confrontation over $60,000 in embezzled money. The male singer once intended to fire the fan club president. Saldivar It was asserted from the beginning that the shooting was accidental and that she intended to kill herself, not the beloved artist. However, the jury still convicted her. She was then sentenced to life in prison possibility of parole after 30 years.
That parole period will begin in March 2025. Yolanda Saldívar is now 64 years old and is being held at Patrick L. O’Daniel in Gatesville, Texas. A representative for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice confirmed to NYP that the killer has Impeccable prison record. Considering that, it is likely that the parole board will agree to hear Yolanda’s plea. The update is that she has submitted the relevant paperwork to be considered for conditional release.
The prisoner claims there is a bounty on the killer’s head
At least two former inmates reportedly spoke to NYP about the danger Yolanda could face in the general prison population.
“Give me five minutes with that bitch.” was the phrase that Yesenia Dominguez told the outlet she heard about Yolanda. “Everyone wants justice for Selena. There’s a target on her back,” the former prisoner declared. Another prisoner, Marisol Lopez, co-signed that energy. She said that “everyone knows who Yolanda Saldívar is.”
“There’s a bounty on her head like everyone wants a piece of her. The guards kept her away from others because she was so hated. If she goes out, someone will try to take her down,” Lopez shared.
A cousin of Yolanda Saldívar told NYP that the holding Saldívar in prison “will not bring anything good”. The cousin added that Yolanda felt like a “political prisoner” and said “it was time for her to get out.”
Meanwhile, according to NYP, Selena’s family will likely receive official notice of the parole hearing next month.
