These 8 cabins are great for solo travelers.

If you’re new to cruising, you may not know that cabins on most ships are designed for a minimum of two people.

This means that the lines expect each stateroom to generate revenue in the form of at least two cruise fares. If you choose to cruise alone in a stateroom that accommodates two or more people, you will almost always pay the double rate (the fare for one person plus a “single supplement”), which means you will pay two full cruise fares even though you are the only one in the stateroom.

With travel alone As solo cabins become more popular, cruise lines are starting to take notice by adding single-occupancy accommodations to their newest ships. Some are even refitting older ships to accommodate solo travelers. While they can be expensive, solo cabins are often a fraction of what you’d pay for a trip in a two-occupancy cabin.

These are the best cabins a solo traveler can book on major cruise lines.

Royal Caribbean boasts the most single cabins of any cruise line, with about half of the ships in the line’s fleet having at least two. Most impressive, however, are the Super Studio suites with balconies, found on Anthem of the Seas, Quantum of the Seas, Ovation of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas, Spectrum of the Seas, and Odyssey of the Seas.

Measuring up to 199 square feet with a 55-square-foot balcony, these cabins come with a variety of beds and have enough space for one person.
