The Deebot X2 Combo Complete is a portable device that makes cleaning floors, stairs and upholstery simple. You never have to directly handle dust or debris. Each part includes four brush heads that I’ve used on my car, curtains, air conditioning unit, dryer filter, stairs, and couch.

I’ve used Deebot X2 robot vacuum and mop in my house since last fall. Although the new device looks the same, it has greater suction power (increased from 8,000Pa to 8,700Pa). I found the robot vacuum and mop to be head and shoulders above its high-end competitors. It keeps my floors free of pet hair and muddy paw prints thanks to its strong suction and effective mopping ability.

The cordless vacuum has a 4000mAh lithium battery, like the $750 Dyson V15 Detect cordless vacuum, which has a run time of up to 60 minutes. Unlike the V15 Detect, the battery of the Deebot X2 handheld vacuum cleaner is not removable.

During testing, I found the Deebot handheld vacuum’s battery life at the highest setting to be 17 minutes and 11 seconds during continuous operation. When running at the lowest setting, run time reached 54 minutes and 31 seconds.

Handheld vacuum cleaners only have two intensity modes: high and low. When you turn it on, the cordless vacuum cleaner runs at the last setting used before turning off. Like the Deebot X2 Omni, the new Deebot X2 had trouble mapping my home (when the device first vacuumed and saved the map to the app). When you set up your robot vacuum and add it to the Ecovacs app, you have to let it map your home before embarking on a thorough cleaning job.

After the initial mapping, I ran the new Deebot X2 Combo Complete robot vacuum to clean the floors at least every two days, but sometimes daily for 10 days. The robot broke down three times during this period, going out to clean and returning to recharge after only cleaning about a quarter of the mapped area – and it was always a different area.

For the first time, the robot only cleans behind the couch. The second time, it stopped at the kitchen and returned to the dock after finishing the living room and half of the kitchen. The third time, it stopped after finishing the living room. While you can select an area or room for the robot to clean using the mobile app, in these cases I activated the cleaning session using the button on the charging dock.

Hopefully Ecovacs will fix this issue with firmware updates. The other problem I noticed is object avoidance. The Deebot I had to remove these and other items from the brush, which took away from the convenience of the robot vacuum.

Please don’t think I live in a pigsty – I don’t. These items are often in places I can’t see, such as under furniture and against walls. My kids also often leave behind toys that my one-year-old puppy likes to break into 2- and 3-inch pieces of plastic that the overactive robot also sucks up, only to jam the roller brush.

Ecovacs explains that small objects do not trigger the robot’s ability to avoid obstacles. Otherwise, the Deebot X2 robot will not pick up cereals and cannot climb transitions on the floor.
