Accessory brand super announced some products at CES 2025but one of the highlights is the new premium trackpad for Windows devices, the HyperSpace Trackpad Pro — a tactile trackpad with tons of customizable features that might finally convince me to ditch the mouse .

Hyper’s Trackpad Pro is designed to be a high-performance device for Windows laptops — filling a void for a product that doesn’t currently exist (at least not in the way that Magic touchpad for Apple products).

The whole ethos behind this product is that yes, it’s premium and yes, that’s a good thing because cheap trackpads suck. I agree, because I’ve tested a lot of laptops and some of the touchpads out there are… not good.

So what’s the problem with Hyperspace Trackpad Pro? First of all, it’s big. It measures 6.2 inches long and 3.5 inches wide, almost certainly larger than the touchpad on your laptop (unless you’re using Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge).

But unlike the touchpad on that laptop, Hyper’s device feels tactile and is angled in a subtle wedge shape with an incredibly small bezel of just 0.5mm. Hyper says precise haptics make clicks feel the same no matter where you press. This is one of my biggest gripes with the touchpad, which has a dome switch that requires different levels of force to activate whether you’re at the top or near the bottom.

However, creators are the real audience this device is designed for. I’m big on hardware customization, which is one of the reasons I love it Asus ProArt laptop. Their touchpads let you create custom gestures and map them to different functions in apps like Photoshop, Premiere, and Figma, making them much more useful, even when used together. with mouse.

Hyper’s touchpad allows for multiple layers of customization. One way is to assign gestures — such as tapping or swiping with one, two or three fingers — to each of the four corners. This allows the same gestures to have different functions depending on where you tap, while also opening up the possibility of using two hands for increased efficiency.

If you don’t need this kind of deep customization, you can skip the zones and assign the easiest tap or swipe functions to precisely zoom, pan, pan, or delete the video.

If you’re wondering about mistyping from your palm, Hyper says the trackpad has built-in smart palm detection, which helps minimize accidental cursor movements or clicks. This is another problem I have with the touchpad – it feels like you have to watch where your hands are or it affects your working posture.

The trackpad has a USB-C port for charging and a single power button at the top end. Hyper says the trackpad’s battery can last up to a month, which is what I expected. Additionally, the sides are magnetic, allowing you to attach the square palm rest to both sides of the device.

Also: I switched to using a detachable ergonomic keyboard for a week and it ruined every other peripheral for me

I’m all about deconstructing the traditional laptop setup by improving on individual hardware components, and I think we’ll see more products with this idea in the coming year. The HyperSpace Trackpad Pro will start at $129 but won’t be available until late Q2 2025, which means you’ll have to wait a bit to buy one.

Until then, I’ll keep an eye on this trackpad and follow up with a hands-on review as soon as I can get my hands on it.
