Tokyo Babylon Episode 4 reveals more hints about Seishirou

in first episode belong to Tokyo Babylon manga, CLAMP is quite subtle about Seishirou Sakurazuka. We get hints that there’s more to him than meets the eye. These become more and more apparent until important actions such as the action in third episode. With newly reissued volume four of Tokyo Babylonit’s much clearer what Seishirou is capable of and what this means for Subaru Sumeragi.

Editor’s note: There will be spoilers for episode 4 of the series. Tokyo Babylon manga and Seishirou below.

Throughout most of it Tokyo Babylon manga up to this point, Seishirou largely seems like a potential force. Yes, he is hiding something. We are certainly aware of his own strength and power. But he maintains his identity as a veterinarian, is kind to both Subaru and Hokuto, and seems to love Subaru. When he acted in previous episodes, it was to assist in some way. With this latest entry, we get a better idea of what we should actually expect from him. Plus, it’s handled in such a way that we’re forced to compare his still considered actions with his more disturbing ones.

It all started with the “Crime” case. After witnessing a temple being demolished, we begin with Subaru reflecting on it with Hokuto and Seishirou about what it means for such a seal to be removed. It’s actually a sweet moment, even though the consequences are being considered. Because we have Seishirou providing the food and offering to cook the next meal for the young onmyouji. And it still seems to be a series of positive interactions when Subaru shows up at Seishirou’s door after an extremely difficult day. One person encourages the other. There’s food for him. Reassure him.

But that was at the end of the first chapter of volume 4 of the series. Tokyo Babylon manga where we start to get real, substantial evidence that all is not well. After Seishirou puts the exhausted and depressed Subaru to bed, he promises to protect and stay by his side. Subaru thanks him. As Seishirou leaves, he looks into the cracked mirror and ominously suggests that he will win the “bet” they both made. While the first part of the next case, titled “Save”, begins with Hokuto seemingly encouraging Subaru’s relationship with Seishirou, while also questioning whether the older man is kind like how he looks or not.

This foreshadowing continues with the meeting between Subaru and his grandmother. In addition to giving him the task of investigating the Ms. Institute, she also shared with him a warning about being swept away by cherry blossoms. Aside from Seishirou’s name and the mysterious assassin Sakurazukamori, it seems even more uncertain. CLAMP leaves us in darkness once again, albeit with more movement towards Hokuto.

This is the end of episode 4 Tokyo Babylon The manga shows how Seishirou’s pacing pays off. Everything leading up to the end of the “Save” storyline is preparing us for what we learn as it comes to a close. Of course, everyone’s future remains uncertain. But there’s a lot of new insight into Seishirou here and the results leave me feeling quite satisfied.

Volume 4 of Tokyo Babylon manga is available now and Yen Bao will release episode 5 on November 19, 2024.
