Instagram has introduced some major changes and updates over the past few months — including new feature And protect privacy.

Today, the social site announced profile cards: Users no longer need to enter handle names to find common or new connections; You can now set up a profile card so you can be easily found with a custom QR code.

Also: Facebook will show you more content from outside your friends list (but that might not be a bad thing)

This new feature is no different from how digital payment apps, such as Venmo and Cash App, allow users to share profiles. Instagram’s version is a double-sided profile card, one side contains a scannable QR code and the other side has your IG address, profile photo, short bio, and song of your choice.

Instagram compares the new update to a digital version of a business card that you can design to contain contact links and showcase your bio “in one beautiful digital package.” It’s a great way to network and “make new connections,” Instagram added, and — by adding a favorite song — to attract new friends with similar interests.

Here’s how to customize your own IG profile tag

  • Go to your profile and tap “Share Profile”. Your own profile card will automatically appear. (If it doesn’t show up, try again later as this feature is rolling out globally.)
  • Click the pencil icon in the upper right corner to edit elements of your profile. This is where you can update your profile information, add your favorite music and contact/project links, and change your background image.
• Share your profile card using the sharing options below the card

This upgrade will be useful for content creators, freelancers, and small businesses, but it’s unclear how useful it might be for users who only use Instagram as a media platform. society — in addition to further professionalizing routine interactions. Ultimately, this speaks to how many social media platforms are encouraging users to develop their personal brands.
