View Trump Campaign Political Event Contract


Phew! Donald Trump‘s campaign wasted no time clearing the air amid allegations from an Atlanta barbershop owner. Ahead of the first presidential debate last week, Donnie hosted a political event at Rocky Barber Shop.

The June 26 event featured Trump answering questions from a panel of experts at the store. Owner Rocky Jones speak Local Store 11 Alive that the Trump campaign misled him about how it would use the venue. The event took place ahead of the first presidential debate on June 27.

Barber shop owner says his place is not for politics

Jones claims to believe the event was a roundtable for black small business owners, not a political rally. Since the event, the barbershop owner — who has been in business for 17 years — claims he has received “some calls, some backlash [and] some people are angry.” In addition, he Emphasis on 11 Alive that his barbershop was not the place to discuss politics.

“I don’t get involved in politics. We don’t even talk about politics in my barbershop. It’s all sports. The World Cup, soccer, baseball, basketball — politics is not what I do. I tell people to vote, but that’s your business. ‘You know, I’m not telling you what to do,’” Rocky Jones said.

The barbershop owner also explained that the event began with a text message and then a follow-up phone call while he was out of the country, according to 11 Alive. He said he believed it would be a small, “private” gathering. Then politicians like Ben Carson showed up, and Trump made the phone call.

“I was like, why is the former president calling someone in my barbershop? This has nothing to do with black small businesses,” Rocky said.

Trump campaign calls for limits on venue owners’ demands

11 Alive first shared the barbershop owner’s statement on June 28. However, when the article gained attention on July 2, a representative for the Trump campaign requested a halt to reporting.

His black communications director, Janiyah Thomasreleased a statement and contract that Rocky Jones allegedly signed before the event.

“We signed a contract stating that this was an agreement with the campaign and payments were made to the business owner,” the statement said.

According to the contract image, both parties agreed to have a political event take place at the store. The second paragraph states, “…The Owner is willing to lease to DJTFP24 and DJTFP24 wishes to lease from the Owner the Owner’s facilities and premises, as approved by the Owner, located at…for the purpose of DJTFP24 holding a political event on the terms and conditions set out herein.”

Their agreement set the rental period as 12 noon to 2:30 p.m. on June 26. Rocky Jones signed the paperwork on June 24 and campaign treasurer Bradley Crate added his signature on June 26 at 11:45 a.m.
