What are you playing this weekend? (July 13)

Jim Norman, Staff Writer

Like last weekend, I will be focusing mainly on Hell in the next few days. I haven’t finished a full playthrough yet (I had to take a little sanity break after reaching Hades’ second attack phase before dying) but I’m determined that it will be out soon. Pretty cool little game, huh?

I’m back too The Connection Between Worlds since Echoes of Wisdom The trailer makes me think of the ultimate top-down adventure. I have to say, Nintendo knows how to make a game! The puzzles are still great, even after 10 years, and the art style is incredibly charming. Come on Nintendo, give us a later port for Switch…

I recently purchased Jeff Minter Akka Arrh along with a few Atari Reloaded title, so I’m pretty into the video game space at the moment. Akka Arrh has a somewhat confusing tutorial (like most of Minter’s games, actually), but once you “get it” there’s really nothing else like it.

Elsewhere, I’m dipping my toes back in. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. I haven’t finished it yet, but I think rather than trying to pick up where I left off, I’d better start from the beginning. There’s a reason many consider this to be From’s best work to date; it’s brutal, but wonderful.

I have no family commitments this weekend, which means… I get to play games again! Except this time, I’m playing TWO games to review, so… that’s what I’m playing. And I can’t talk about them.

On Steam, I got a few items on sale! Subnautica 2, NoitaAnd The Painscreek Murders. I’ve only played Subnautica so far and it’s been a great time. I stole a baby alien penguin from its parents and now I don’t know what to do with it. Oh?

Oh, and this week, I finished Paper Mario: The Millennium Door. It’s as good as I remembered, further proving that I’m right about video games and people should listen to me. A few chapters are a bit dated (looking at you, Boggly Woods) but not too bad with all the shortcuts they added in the remake! I can play now Super Mario RPG Gamewhich i bought with game voucher during the promotion “buy game voucher and get tons of gold points”. Great!

Did you know I have a particular shade of blue that I’m addicted to? It only happens in the summer, just before noon, when the sky turns a deep blue that lasts forever. But what is this annoying buzz that interrupts my trance? Ah, a missile lock alert. Some Erusean idiot is trying to fire a missile at my tail. The peaceful blue sky will have to wait.

You guessed it, my entire weekend will be spent (playing again) Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown – Deluxe Edition to tackle my most challenging task to date: writing the most comprehensive review ever for the most unlikely/impossible Switch adaptation! Keep watching the (virtual) skies…

My gaming time includes a lot of Final Fantasy XIV: Dawn Treader or The Elden Ringand will continue until I get bored (FFXIV) and until I finish the DLC (Elden Ring, which I haven’t even played yet — curse you, Maliketh!). On the Switch, there’s a lot going on there too, mostly older stuff this time!

The Twinkle Star Dropping into NSO means I get to check out a bunch of games I’ve always wanted to play. What a great little idea to drop some easy to understand Japanese-only titles into NSO. Definitely better than nothing. And I’ll play again Fables am doing a podcast with some friends. This is still one of my favorite indies of all time, so I am excited to revisit it. Have a great day!

That’s what we have planned for the weekend, but what about you? You can let us know what games you’ll be playing in the poll below and then comment to share what’s on your list.
