What are you playing this weekend? (November 9)
Of course I played some Mario & Luigi: Brothership. I’ve uploaded my initial feedback from the first few hours of the game, if anyone wants to check it out: https://youtu.be/8nLncv_vQN8?si=K95k1xgCdsbH2gCt
I felt a lot more comfortable and casual in front of the camera than in most of my previous videos, so I think I was pretty proud of the way I delivered the commentary. Unfortunately, for some reason the game audio is a bit loud, so apologies if it’s a bit hard to hear. Maybe this will help you decide if you’re on the fence about the game or not.
Also, on my channel I’m playing Pac-Man World Re-Pac which I plan to play this weekend. I’ll be done in just one more recording session, because I’m in the sixth and final world. After that, I’ll probably move on to Rayman Legends as the next game on my channel. I also want to record at least a few of those episodes this weekend!
If not, I might play some more Super Mario Party Jamboree with my dad and maybe finish Nikoderiko, because I’m almost finished. The game has an unfortunate lack of polish; I got soft-locked and had to restart a level twice, fell through see-saw platforms when trying to slide, and encountered some graphical glitches, such as text randomly flashing. I can see that being a deal breaker and bringing the game down to a 5/10 for many.
But if you can get past the stuttering, the controls are solid and the level design is actually very good. I think this is a better Donkey Kong Country clone than Yoola-Laylee and Impossible Lair. Reinventing the wheel doesn’t do anything new, but it also isn’t necessary. It also looks really nice, but the loading times are pretty bad. Maybe take a break from this game for a patch and sale, because $30 is a big ask, especially for a game as difficult as this one. But if all of that is taken care of, this is effectively Retro Studios’ third Donkey Kong game.
