What are your favorite side quests on Switch?
Ahhh, there’s nothing like taking a detour in a video game. From massive open-world games to turn-based RPGs, side quests are almost an essential part of the adventure. After all, can you really say you saved the world or discovered your friends’ secrets if you haven’t collected all the magic money or you haven’t helped the village mayor pay off his debt?
As we near the end of the Switch’s life, here at Nintendo Life we’ve weighed in on all of our favorite side missions we’ve experienced (or re-experienced) on the adorable little hybrid console. And there’s no shortage of those optional but magical expeditions.
So what do we mean by side quests? Basically, any optional quests unrelated to the main story will usually reward you with new weapons, items, or even lore.
We’re talking about special moments like Witch 3‘The Bloody Baron’ is a large side quest in which Geralt tries to find his family in Velen in exchange for information on Ciri’s whereabouts. Anyone who has experienced even a portion of that mission knows things are not that simple – it is an incredibly emotional and challenging mission, and a rare feat in and of itself. Quests and rewards are equal. The Witcher 3 is the gold standard for side quests in video games, and this quest line is just one of many examples.
To see an outstanding example from Nintendo, visit Xenoblade Chronicles 3arguably has some of the best side missions in a series filled with them. Missions that focus on the main group, such as Eunie and Taion, bring even more life to the cast; Heroic Quests bring you new support characters, like Ashera, that make up the world of Aionios. And don’t get us started on it Anguis of an outsider. It still makes us cry.
It doesn’t matter whether the game is exclusive to Nintendo Switch or not – if the game has a standout side quest then we really want to hear what you have to say about it. And yes, the NSO games are totally worth it—we’re sure we can think of a game or two on that service that have some adorable side activities.
And look, us know Breath of the wild And Tears of the Kingdom there are some outstanding side quests – can you really play these games properly if you’re not taking on 20 different quests at once or rebuilding Tarrey Town? — but there are so many of them that we don’t want to be bombarded with hundreds of missions from those games. Damned, Echoes of wisdom And The awakening of connection is right there!
