WhatsApp to soon launch strange message blocking feature along with ‘like reactions’
Meta-owned WhatsApp is testing two new features that it may soon release to Android smartphone users. The new features include blocking messages from unknown contacts and the ability to like reactions.
Feature to block messages from unknown users
Due to its wide reach and popularity among users, WhatsApp is vulnerable to cybercriminals who spam users with unwanted messages.
WhatsApp is on the verge of releasing a new feature that will allow users to block messages received from unknown contacts. As the feature suggests, the name of the feature is “Block messages from unknown senders” and it will block messages from unsaved contacts.

According to information provided by WABetaInfo, this new feature is still in the testing phase. It does not block all unknown senders, but only those whose messages exceed a certain limit. The feature was spotted on WhatsApp’s Android beta version 2.24.17.24.
Once this feature is enabled, all messages sent by unknown contacts that exceed a certain threshold will be automatically blocked.

WhatsApp already has tools to alert users to threats and spam messages. This new feature goes a step further in protecting users from potential security breaches. It is designed to protect users from cyberattacks like phishing, scams, and any other type of unsafe activity that could pose a threat to their sensitive information and the security of their devices.
Details on when this feature will be released are still uncertain. Currently, this feature is in testing and is only available to a limited number of users.

New ‘like reaction’ feature
Additionally, WABetaInfo also reported that WhatsApp is working on a new quick reaction feature that will allow users to like other users’ status updates. The feature will be placed next to the reply button on the status tab. Status likes will be visible to users in the Status viewer list whenever they open their update, rather than on the messages tab. The platform will also give users the option to turn off notifications for these heart-shaped reactions. The feature will be similar to the likes found on Instagram stories.
