Get 50% off airfare during Southwest’s 2024 birthday sale
Southwest Airlines is celebrating its birthday this week and offering some deals in the process – for both paid flights and advance bookings using Quick rewards point.
The Dallas-based airline is offering discounts on some late summer and fall flights over the next few days. It can save you up to 50% on certain bookings.
We’ve found huge discounts that can help you save on August flights to Florida, weekend getaways to Nashville and flights to Dallas during football season.
This is the latest one in one A series of recent offers and discounts TPG has followed up, raising questions about whether 2024 could mark the “return of the airfare deal.”
Considering that you won’t be paying for a seat, checked baggage, or large carry-on when flying Southwest, this deal may be reason enough to book a trip in the second half of 2024.

There are some additional rules and notes you need to know to take advantage of this offer.
- Not all trips qualify. Even when booking between August 6 and December 18, I found a lot of potential dates and itineraries with no discounts.
- For example, I checked flights from Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport (BWI) to Cancun International Airport (CUN), and had no luck searching for days. However, unlike many airline sales, there are many on Fridays and other weekends To be qualify, so you’re not strictly limited to Tuesday and Wednesday flights.
- Note that you must be a Rapid Rewards member, logged into your account to take advantage of these offers. And don’t bother searching with a web browser: this is a mobile app-specific discount.
Model flight
While there are plenty of ineligible dates, we also found plenty of great savings opportunities, whether you’re hoping to take another late-summer trip or get something on the books for fall This.
For example, here’s a one-way flight on a Saturday in August from Chicago’s Midway International Airport (MDW) to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) for $94, reduced from $127 (save save 25%).
Technically, this sale includes potential savings of “up to 50%,” but many of the deals we saw hovered closer to 25%
For example, you can save about 27% on a Friday flight this September from Baltimore to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX).
Notably, with this deal you can also save on conversions.
For example, here’s a flight from Denver International Airport (DEN) to Nashville International Airport (BNA) for just over 6,900 Express Rewards points — nearly 3,000 points less than usual. It’s a great choice for a fall getaway in Music City.
Your best bet: enter some dates and cities you might be interested in, and check both cash and points prices to see if there are potential deals you can take advantage of.

If you’re a frequent Southwest flier, you might also consider adding one of the airline’s co-branded credit cards to your wallet.
