Interview: Game Development SPY x ANYA SPY x FAMILY
It can be a really big deal when an anime series ends up inspiring its first game. Especially when it’s one Jump Shonen The next series and title isn’t anything like a fighter. But that’s exactly what happened SPY x ANYA: Active Memories, the first SPY x FAMILY game. It’s a more laid-back, slice-of-life story with Anya Forger at its center. To learn more about its development, Siliconera spoke with Producer Yuri Kishi about the title..
Jenni Lada: When did you start working? SPY x ANYA: SPY x FAMILY active memories game?
KishiYuri: The project started several years ago. When we started, the anime series had not yet aired in Japan, but the manga series had begun and we were confident that the game would spread even further in the future. Many people in our office are also fans of the manga, and the project began with one fan’s desire to enjoy the world of The Spy Family in the form of a video game.
How does it affect? SPY x FAMILY manga and anime on SPY x ANYA: Operation MemoryAnd what events can we expect to see in the game?
Kishi: In the game, the player takes on the role of Anya and collects souvenir photos of her daily life to complete a photo diary assignment from Eden University. During the day, players can go to school and at night, they can spend time with the Forger family. On holidays, players can go to the beach, aquarium, and other places with their family to collect souvenir photos to put in Anya’s diary.
The game also features over 15 unique mini-games dedicated to SPY x FAMILY. For example, you can avoid the ball when playing Dodgeball by using Anya’s Telepathy in the mini-game. Additionally, the four Forger characters can enjoy over 80 different outfit options, including outfits from the anime as well as original in-game clothing, accessories, and hairstyles that can only be found in the game.
There are 10 types of trips the Forger family can take in the game. How many different outcomes and experiences can we expect to experience at each location and place? How valuable is it to return to the same location multiple times?
Kishi: Depending on the progress of the game, the number of places you can go out will be unlocked. There are 10 places in total, including the aquarium, museum, castle, and beach. Once you have reached a destination, you can go there as many times as you like and can decide where to go. At each destination, there are many things that Anya likes, such as butterflies and swings. When you find them, take pictures of them. If you take good pictures, you will be able to collect memories to fill up your diary. The “Super Cool!” items will change each time you visit a destination, so try going there multiple times and taking different pictures. After taking all the pictures, you will be able to see the wonderful event of the Forger family.
Which SPY x ANYA: Memory works Which outing is the most fun to take?
Kishi: There are a total of 10 rides in the game, and the locations featured in the anime, such as museums and castles, are particularly impressive. Players can actually run around the anime world. In addition to the destinations, the game also offers a unique experience of running around as Anya in the Forger’s house, Eden College, and other familiar locations, and interacting with characters like Loid, Yor, Damian, Yuri, and Fiona.

Kishi: At Eden College, you can interact with Anya and her friend’s homeroom teacher, Henderson, as well as Damian’s friends, Emile and Ewen. You can participate in various mini-games with them, such as playing cards, attending Henderson’s class, competing in reviews, and even playing Dodgeball with Bill, who also appears in the anime.
When choosing mini games for SPY x ANYA: Operation MemoryWhat types of activities and experiences have you tried to prioritize?
Kishi: Spy x FAMILY combines unique characters, a strange but warm story, exciting action and humorous story, making it popular among a wide range of customers, of all ages. We wanted to capture the essence of Spy x Family and be able to be enjoyed by anyone who loves the series with a game that can be interactive entertainment. After careful discussion inside and outside the company, we developed the gameplay and style for SPY x ANYA: Active Memory. In this game, players can enjoy unique mini-games based on the anime, such as using Anya’s telepathy to dodge the ball in Dodgeball or reading the opponent’s mind in a card game. There are also mini-games where players control Loid as “Twilight” to complete missions, Yor as “Princess of Thorns” to defeat bad guys and run after Bond.
Now you have created a life sim based on Spies x FAMILYAre there any other types of games based on the series that you would like to create?
Kishi: Currently, there are no plans for another game. However, as mentioned above, the world Spies x FAMILY so rich, I’m sure there are other ways to adapt it into another game. We incorporated a lot of the piece’s charm Spy x ANYAso i hope you will play this game!
