Mary Trump Expects a “Revenge Trip” After Conviction

In a special episode of Inside the hive, host Brian Stelter discuss Donald Trump guilty verdict with Mary Trump, Writer, a psychologist, is also the niece of the former president and is currently a convicted felon. “This is not a victory for the Democrats. It is a victory for the rule of law in America,” Mary Trump said, emphasizing that “attacks on the rule of law must be taken very, very seriously.”

“And that’s probably the most brutal part of this process in New York City,” she continued. “On the one hand, and indisputably, this trial was conducted almost flawlessly by a very professional and very fair judge. Clearly the jury took it seriously. All the court staff, security staff – everyone acted like professionals, except, of course, the defendant.” Not to mention, she said, Donald Trump has a highly paid defense team and “due process at every step of the process.”

“But then you see members of Congress not coming to New York to support him but coming to New York to erode the American people’s faith in the rule of law, just as they have been eroding their faith in the rule of law. American people’s belief in the concept of freedom. and fair elections,” she said, adding, “This is the beginning of another very dark, very tense and very trying period in American history.”

Mary Trump also described how her uncle had long suppressed feelings of humiliation, or “feeling like a loser,” and why she expected him to lash out more after his conviction. “I think that’s one of the scary things about this verdict,” she said. “He didn’t play by the rules, he never felt the rules applied to him, but now, what does he have to lose? He has been convicted and he will take revenge.”
