Preferred Hotels & Resorts now cost more than Choice Points

If you want redeem points Select Unfortunately, for stays at your Preferred Hotels & Resorts, award rates are currently higher at many properties in the portfolio.

Until recently, you could redeem 25,000 to 55,000 Choice Points per night for stays at participating Preferred Hotels & Resorts. Now, less than three months since Preferred Hotels & Resorts can be booked online with Choice points (previously, you needed to call to book), bonus rates at many properties have spike and you’ll need to redeem between 20,000 and 87,000 Choice Points per night. Travel with Grant first reported this prize price increase.

Interestingly, the previous bonus rate is still advertised for six properties on Preferred Hotels & Resorts. Landing page on the Choice Hotels website.

But when you click through to book a room on the Preferred Hotels & Resorts website, each cost is higher than listed. For example, Splendid Venice Venezia-Starhotels Collezione in Venice, Italy, previously cost 55,000 Choice points per night. But now, each awards night at this hotel can be booked for 66,000 points.

Hollywood Roosevelt in Los Angeles used to cost 45,000 points per night, but now the award rate has increased to 51,000 points per night.

And Cavallo Point in San Francisco used to cost 55,000 points per night but now costs 71,000 points per night.

The list goes on and on. Plus, you’ll now find Preferred Hotels & Resorts hotels for up to 87,000 Choice Points per night. These four attributes are:

  • Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa in Manalapan, Florida
  • Half moon in Montego Bay, Jamaica
  • Hawks Cay Resort in Duck Key, Florida
  • Edgewood Tahoe Resort in Stateline, Nevada

Preferred Hotels & Resorts reward rates are as low as 20,000 Choice Points per night at The Thief in Oslo, Norway.

Many visitors are disappointed about the price increase of this award. But partnerships will likely get more incentives as online bookings become available, and that could force — or at least encourage — increased reward rates. We have seen high award rates with many similar hotel partners, including how you can exchange Hyatt points for some Mr & Mrs Smith properties.

I have considered redeem 55,000 Choice points per night for Noku Maldives, but this hotel is no longer bookable through the Preferred Hotels & Resorts partnership. So, given the current list of properties and their award prices, I don’t expect to redeem Choice points for any of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts.

Instead, I’ll continue to get great value when redeeming Choice points for stays in Japan at rates ranging from 8,000 to 12,000 points per night, and expensive destinations have award costs of up to 35,000 points per night. After all, awards nights at Choice Hotels still cost between 6,000 and 35,000 points in most of the world (except Asia Pacific, where awards nights cost up to 75,000 points). . I will also follow Choice Hotels Sweet Spot Rewards assets and Choose experience perksas both are good ways to get solid value when redeeming Choice Points.
