Game director Masahiro Sakurai shared the “win rate data” of online battles in his latest YouTube video – revealing the highest win rate with a single character is 51.43% and the highest win rate the lowest is 47.18%, with a “smooth increase” in between.

“The Internet can tend to be a kind of echo chamber, so if people start saying something is strong or weak, that assessment will gain momentum and make people think it’s truer than it actually is. ..”

According to Sakurai “any fighter has a chance to win” and if you are playing as one of the less popular fighters in the community, there is only about a 5% difference between characters on and under.

“This tells us that any fighter has a chance to win a fight. In fact, it would be difficult to get them much closer…”
