Located at the crossroads of the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains, Jackson County is a great summer destination with breathtaking scenery, comforting Southern cuisine, and family-friendly outdoor adventures — including great trout and fly fishing.

During the summer months, temperatures can be cool enough in the mornings and evenings to escape the intense heat typical of many southern destinations. However, the days are still warm enough to enjoy water sports or relax at Glenville Lake beach.

Escape for a peaceful, slow-paced vacation in the town of Mystic, Connecticut. Explore the river and shoreline as well as the historic and charming downtown on foot at your own pace. Drive to nearby Stonington County for a spectacular New England coastal town experience in about 15 minutes. Ocean lovers should visit DuBois Beach for a quick dip. Afterwards, sip wine at a local winery and snap postcard-perfect photos of the town.

Summer falls between these big 2024 events, so it’s a great time to take advantage of low rates and Airbnb availability. Check out one of the country’s largest river redevelopment projects by canoe, kayak or paddleboard. Or, rent an electric bike to explore one of the flattest cities in the US. Take the family on a boating adventure (rent a boat or bring your own), and make time for a round of golf if that’s more your style. Adults can sip at local wineries (the Willamette Valley is famous for its pinot noir), and families with kids can take a leisurely cruise down the McKenzie River. Gstaad is a great place for hikers, with nearly 200 miles of pristine hiking trails. Be sure to pack a picnic of produce from the local farmers’ markets (there are over 300 farms in the area).
