The D.C. Bar’s Council on Professional Responsibility on Friday recommended that Rudy Giuliani be barred from practicing law in the nation’s capital.

In its report, the panel cited Giuliani’s work in Pennsylvania after the 2020 presidential election, in which he sought to throw out the state’s election results in favor of former client Donald Trump.

“The Board agrees with the Hearing Committee that Disciplinary Counsel has demonstrated by clear and convincing evidence that Respondent violated the Pennsylvania Rules of Professional Conduct,” the report said. “As for sanctions, we agree with the Hearing Committee that Respondent should have his license revoked.”

this report following one from last year in which the DC Bar’s disciplinary panel also recommended that Giuliani be disbarred. The case will now move to the DC Court of Appeals, which will decide whether Giuliani, who once served as mayor of New York City, will be disbarred.

In a statement provided to NBC News, Ted Goodman, a spokesman for Giuliani, blamed the report’s findings on “Democrats” and said the decision would deter the attorneys general. accept Trump as a customer.

“This recommendation is not surprising as Democrats continue to destroy the credibility of the American justice system in their efforts to defeat President Trump and hold on to power,” Goodman said.

“Stripping the mayor of his law license is intended to prevent lawyers from representing clients like President Donald Trump or anyone else willing to take on the prevailing political establishment,” he added. .

Goodman also called on “senior members of the DC Bar Association to speak out against this irresponsible and anti-American recommendation – whether you agree with the mayor’s political views or not.”

Giuliani has a license to practice law suspended in New Yorkwhere a New York court ruled that he made “manifestly false and misleading statements” after the 2020 presidential election.

Another former Trump lawyer, Jenna Ellis, is barred from practicing law in Colorado for three years following the work she did for Trump after the last election.
