Douglas’ unfortunate injury ended her bid to make the Paris 2024 Olympic team. Gabby returned to competition this spring after a nearly eight-year absence, hoping to make the U.S. team for this summer’s Paris Olympics.

Despite the circumstances, the gymnast said GAME that she is proud of what she has achieved 18 months back.

“I love this sport and I love pushing my limits. I hope I can inspire both my colleagues and the next generation of gymnasts that age is just a number and you can achieve anything you put your mind to.” Douglas told ESPN.

According to EPSN, Gabby was the first black gymnast to win the Olympic all-around championship at the 2012 London Games and helped the United States win back-to-back team gold medals in London and Rio in 2016.

Gabby officially announced her return in early February this year. She then returned to competition in April at the American Classic in Katy, Texas, where she qualified for the United States championships.

Gabby looks to the future

The US Championships are probably Gabby’s last chance to receive an invitation to the Olympic trials in Minneapolis in June. However, she plans to continue training to prepare for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles. She will also reunite with her longtime agent, Lowell Taub of Range Sports.

“I have proven to myself and to the sport that my skills are still at an elite level. My plan is to continue training for the 2028 LA Olympics. It will be an honor to represent the United States at the Olympics on home soil,” Gabby said in a statement.
