Niko started the clap on Instagram Story by criticizing Tyrese’s supposed past living situation. He said that as a child, Gibson often “slept underneath [their] billiards.”

He then goes to Tyrese to protect his father while he encounters strange relationship with the people in my life.

“I know the 90s R&N fraternity was thicker than anything, but you should sit this one out, champ. You have relationships to work out with your children and past decisions you’ve made in the name of p***y and power. The loyalty in those two things is what keeps you from seeing that the only thing that matters in the end is family. Real men can see through that bullshit.”

Niko also revealed that he typed that message while on a “46-hour chemotherapy infusion,” adding that the drug helped him get ready to “blur Jody.”

Tyrese still doesn’t seem to be reacting to the resistance.

What prompted Nikolas McKnight’s message to Tyrese?

For context, before marrying Leilani, Brian McKnight welcomed four children – Brian Jr., Nikolas, Briana and Clyde – with three women. In recent years, the singer has publicly distanced himself from the first three, calling them “mutual” beef.

Meanwhile, he has publicly claimed Leilani’s biological children, Julia and Jack, as his own. When he and his wife welcomed their son last year, Brian gave it his all and legally changed its name to match the child’s name – negate the name of his eldest child.

Most recently, Brian McKnight appeared to call his biological children “evil” and “negative” that he needed to remove from his life. Those comments are what prompted Rickey Smiley to extend his support. Note that Rickey’s son passed away in January 2023, according to USA Today.

In a video posted to social media, Rickey explained that he felt “stunned and appalled” by Brian’s treatment of his biological children. He reassures adults that they are “not thrown away” or “trash.” In his words, they are “loved” and need to be “respected.”

“…If anyone gets this message to Brian McKnight’s sons and daughters: you are always welcome to the state of Alabama…where you have men and you have uncles and you have lots of people…to adopt children abandoned children by their fathers,” he said.

But Tyrese appeared to miss the point of the message and instead took the time to talk to Rickey on Instagram for his approval.

Although he admitted that he had never spoken to Brian McKnight about the strained father-son relationship, he felt it was not Smiley’s place to comment.

This is not the first time Nikolas McKnight has gone public about his father’s situation. In April, Niko and his mother, Julie, clapped back at Brian, calling his biological children “evil.”
